Recollections of the Swan Lake Road and other roads, 1937 July 29.

A typed copy of a history of routes and descriptions of roads and trails in St. Louis County, Minnesota. Swan Lake Road was begun in the 1850s with a goal of linking Duluth with the Red River Valley and the wheat produced there. Railroads eliminated the need for the road before it was completed. Merritt's paper was read at a meeting of the St. Louis County Historical Society, under the auspices of the Federal Writers' Project, Duluth, Minnesota.
